Top 10: The Weeknd

Now, before you get started, note that this is a top 10 list of his ā€œsinglesā€, which means no song with features can be admitted on this list, so donā€™t expect to see Starboy or I feel it coming ranked here.

That said, this was an extremely difficult list to make, and it testifies to the artistry and quality of Tesfaye.

Without further ado, here are my top ten songs by The Weeknd

10. Heartless

Also known as the Yoruba men’s anthem, ā€œHeartlessā€ earns its place on this list thanks to the incredible vocals of Tesfaye on the track. It also earned a Billboard Music Award for Best R&B song, and rightly so.

9. The Birds, Pt. 1

This could be a strange entry for a lot of people and thatā€™s okay. The song sits on his less popular 2011 Trilogy album and could quite easily get lost in between the 30-song tracklist. If you havenā€™t given it a listen, you should.

8. Reminder

Right off the bat, Iā€™m going to admit that I have a soft spot for this song. Itā€™s not going to be a popular choice, hell, it even peaked at just number 16 on the charts but my list, my rules. I think itā€™s his most underrated song, especially on a replay.

7. Die For You

Weā€™re getting into ā€˜insanely good songsā€™ territory, and this is the perfect song to begin it. ā€œDie For Youā€ is the 17th track on Tesfayeā€™s 2016 Starboy album, and itā€™s really good. Sometimes it makes me wonder how the same guy who sang heartless could have once sung this, but Iā€™m guessing thatā€™s what heartbreak does to a person. * shrugs *

6. Call Out My Name

Rumour has it that Tesfaye recorded this track as a backlash to his relationship with Selena Gomez, which had just ended, and itā€™s difficult to refute it. Not to seem overanalytical, but you could hear the raw emotion of heartbreak on this track from Tesfaye. It deservedly earns its place on this list.

5. Canā€™t Feel My Face

ā€œCanā€™t Feel My Faceā€ is the 7th track on what is, in my opinion, his best album, Beauty Behind The Madness. It was nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 2016 Grammy Awards back when the Grammyā€™s acknowledged him (* sigh *).

4. Wicked Games

You know those songs that you listen to and immediately want to confess your love for someone. The Weeknd is the king of those songs, and ā€œWicked Gamesā€ is perhaps the shining example. ā€˜Bring your love, baby, I could bring my shame.ā€™ Itā€™s a really, really good song and would be higher up the list, but there are three better.

3. Blinding Lights

Inevitable. This song holds the Guinness World Record for the most weeks at the top of the US charts, as well as multiple Billboard awards. ā€œBlinding Lightsā€ is the ninth track on his exceptional solo album, After Hours. It should have a Grammy.

2. Earned It

ā€œCause girl, youā€™re perfect, youā€™re always worth it, and you deserve it, the way you work it, girl, you earned it.ā€œ What more can I say. A timeless hit with multiple awards and nominations, including a Grammy win for Best R&B Performance. This is the song that made Mr. and Mrs. Weekndā€™s baby boy a household name, and thereā€™s just one better.

1. The Hills

Itā€™s his best, and you know it. In 2015, Tesfaye released his Beauty Behind The Madness album, and with it came this stunner that had everyone screaming, ā€œI only called you when itā€™s half-past fiveā€ at the top of their voice and giving solo vocal performances in the shower. It received multiple awards and nominations and is still one of the most-streamed songs in music history.

Well, thatā€™s my list. Did I leave out any of your favourite The Weeknd songs? Let me know in the comments below. Also, donā€™t forget to like, follow and share, as it goes a long way.

Till next time.
