Top Five: Santan Dave (Collaborations)

Due to popular demand after our hit ‘Top Ten: Santan Dave (Singles)’ post (if you haven’t checked it out what are you waiting for?), here are our Top Five: Santan Dave Collaborations.

Location ft. Burna Boy

Nigerian superstar- Burna Boy is featured on the fifth track of Dave’s Psychodrama album with Location.

The track is basically about the seductive abilities of Dave who seems to be eagerly awaiting the release of a friend from jail. Burna kicks off the song by chiming a rhythmic hook which he repeats after each verse till he sings his own verse at the end of the song.

Some of the standout lines include- Life is a lesson, I’m passing the test; Playboy I don’t need a Carti.

Wanna Know ft. Drake

This track rocketed Dave’s popularity within the american music sphere albeit thanks to this headline making collab with Drizzy himself.

Wanna Know showcases Dave’s vocals with intricate lyrics about his rise to fame and how enriching and hypocritical it has been. Drake bolsters the track with a classic intro and verse to seal the hit track.

Lesley ft. Ruelle

The track makes the list thanks to Dave’s insane story-telling abilities.

Dave tells the story of Lesley and her toxic relationship with her man, Jason. This song makes you feel like you’re watching a Tyler Perry original and has plot twist you won’t see coming (Yes, a plot twist in a song, Dave did that).

Ruelle’s contribution to the track is next to nothing with just a brief vocal addition at the end of it as Dave stole the spotlight.

Standout line: One more line before I dash like Morse code.

Thiago Silva ft. AJ Tracey

This two grime powerhouses combine for an explosive track.

The pair approach the track as a tag team swapping lines mid verse like one-two passes in football. They exchange references ranging from Nikes to Naruto.

The brilliant electronic sounds and their clever exchange of lines that earns it a place on the list.

Samantha ft. JHus

When Dave and Hus collab, it’s nothing short of special and this track is right up there in the world of music collaborations.

Jae 5 incoporates the piano skills of Dave with his intuitive experience in production to supply these artistes with a stunning beat that was matched and even surpassed by their witty lyrics. The song revolves around the theme of ‘Gentleman and Gangster’ with the pair showing they can adopt either when need be. Both artistes lay down clever verses and combine for a harmonious chorus.

The stand out line is- We sent your man to the shop / what do you mean? He ain’t ever made it rain / your man is a fraud, your boyfriend’s living a lie, you’re kind of like Rachel Zane.

Special mention to Funky Friday ft Fredo, Disaster ft. JHus and No Words ft. Mostack which narrowly got edged out of the list.
